WINTER 2008 - 2009
February 2009 Updates:Snow removal:
Remember that the PMROA regulates snow removal on the Ranch. The requirements are posted here. As spring approaches, sub-standard plowing practices can lead to expensive road damage as meltwater has no way to leave the road and reach the drainage ditches. Repair costs for this damage may be assessed to the plow operators in that area.
Parking:
As always, we've dealt with some ridiculous parking practices around the ranch this winter. Blocking another owners access to their property, vehicles parked in, or partly in, the road and vehicles left blocking the mailboxes and dumpsters cannot be allowed. The Ranch has and will continue to have these vehicles towed. Unfortunately, the PMROA must pay for some of that cost, as it cannot all be billed to the owner. These practices, therefore, not only inconvenience the other owners, but cost us all money.
Trash and Recycling:
Dumpsters at the bottom of the hill are for the use of Tollgate Canyon ownershousehold trash only. Recycling is provided there as well for all mixed recyclables except for glass. That's right, you don't need to sort your recyclables. Please don't fill the dumpsters with cardboard, cans, paper etc. If you are doing a major cleanup, demolition, furniture, appliances and the like, they must go to the landfill. It's only a 10 minute drive from the ranch and will take all of your larger trash. Do not leave large, heavy items near the dumpsters. The driver will not pick them up, and you are dumping illegally. Here is the information for the Three Mile Landfill and here is a map. They will also accept your hazardous waste like paints, cleaners, oil etc. Throwing these items in the dumpsters contaminates our clean water.
Meeting changes for the PMROA:
The owners Association is going to meet once a month. The meeting will be held on the fourth Tuesday of each month. On odd numbered months we will meet in the Salt Lake Valley at a location to be determined. On even months, at the Snyderville Basin Recreation District conference room. Meeting schedules can be found here.
Additionally, note that the board has approved a reimbursement schedule for members travelling to meetings. While the Ranch By-Laws are clear that the board members are unpaid, the out-of-pocket expenses of serving on the board can be a burden on some members. We have, therefore, approved a proposal that will allow members, if they choose, to submit mileage to and from meetings for reimbursement at the standard IRS rate.

Winter 2008-09 has come to the Ranch
Time to get the snow tires put on, put the chains in the trunk and leave some extra time to get around. Remember that these first few storms are particularly slippery on the unfrozen ground and there are still folks on the ranch who are unfamiliar with our winter driving conditions. Be safe and have fun!
December 6, 2008 update. There have been a number of accidents on Tollgate Canyon Road this season. Historically, early season (and late-season) snowfalls and melt-freeze cycles have made for the most dangerous road conditions on the ranch. Additionally, conditions vary widely from the upper to lower part of the road with the 1500 foot elevation change and 10 degree difference. True snow tires are important, chains are advised if conditions warrant, and pulling trailers up or down in these conditions is foolhardy. Accidents or jack-knifes that close the road must be dealt with immediately, as nearly a thousand owners rely on this single access.
Sanding needs for the road are evaluated daily, but we contract for the work and it is not always immediately available. Additionally, Our contractor cannot always access Tollgate above Oil Well Road. One should never assume that sanding is done on ANY part of the road.
Thanks all, be careful.
